CAMSHAFT ALIGNMENT

The dreaded F8X cold start engine ticking noise reared it’s head again recently when this beautiful M4 visited us for diagnosis.

This fault is a result of the exhaust camshaft not being correctly tightened from the factory causing the camshaft to have excessive movement which impacts the camshaft alignment causing premature wear to the camshaft bearing journal.

The repair we carry out includes removing the camshaft & carrier so that the camshafts can be re-aligned using the BMW special tool, then re-torquing the camshaft to the correct settings and then reassembling using genuine BMW parts.

We have heard of dealers dismissing this as ‘no fault found’, replacing unnecessary parts and in some cases, recommending engine replacements!
